Cerchi in legno - wooden rims

Questo vintage, robusto ed elegante cerchio in legno fu costruito da una azienda Italiana di nome CBL sita in Limbiate (MI). Il cerchio è costruito con liste di legno antiche e stagionate, assemblate in tre strati e giuntate mediante un processo proprio che CBL aveva brevettato e perfezionato con oltre 100 anni di esperienza. Il cerchio pesa circa 310-330 grammi ed è fornibile in versione 32 o 36 fori. E'adatto per essere montato con coperture tubolari o palmer. Il cerchio in legno Hickory è inoltre ideale per i restauri di biciclette da corsa d’epoca, fine anni '30 inizio anni '90. Per circa vent’anni questi cerchi sono stati usati in tutte le corse sportive agonistiche più importanti compresa la Parigi Roubaix. Sono prodotti da CB Italia.

This vintage, strong and beautiful wood rim was handmade by CBL Company in Limbiate (MI), Italy. It is constructed of aged ash and Hyckory wood, assembled in tree strips that are joined with a special process that the CBL's have Registred and perfectioning in over 100 years of experience. The CBL rim weighs about 310-330 g., it has 32 or 36 spoke holes,it is designed only for tubular tires. The wooden rims Hickory are ideal for restoration of vintage race bikes, since the end of the '30 until the beginning of the '90. Dan Funderburgh + Brooks

L’artista che fa base a Brooklyn, designer di carta da parati e appassionato di bici Dan Funderburgh ha realizzato per il Team Pro Alpe d'Huez, un’edizione stagionale di sella per bici realizzata dall’inglese Brooks. L’affascinante risultato della collaborazione tra la rinomata fabbrica di selle e Funderburgh, è l’incisione topografica dell 'Alpe d'Huez interamente martellata a mano.

Brooklyn-based artist, wallpaper designer and bike enthusiast Dan Funderburgh just tipped us to the Team Pro Alpe d'Huez, a seasonal edition bike seat from Brooks England. The handsome result of a collaboration between the venerable saddle maker and Funderburgh, it features his hand-hammered, topographic impression of the Alpe d'Huez.

Abbiamo preso una delle loro forme di sella già esistenti e ricoperte nella classica pelle multistrisce Paul Smith. Ce ne sono 20 disponibili in Giappone da Spazio Paul Smith e 8 dal mio negozio di Floral Street, in Inghilterra. Le selle sono state lanciate nel corso del Tokyo Bicycle Film Festival il 20-23 novembre".

"We have collaborated with Kashimax a specialist Japanese bicycle saddle maker. We have taken one of their existing saddle shapes and covered it in the classic Paul Smith multistripe leather. There are 20 available in Japan from Paul Smith 'Space' and 8 from my shop in Floral Street, England. The saddles will be launched during the Tokyo Bicycle Film Festival 20th to 23rd November".

Dodici* cicli

Visita e shopping alla nuova bottega di Jacopo Volpe (foto in alto), Dodici cicli, in via Pietrasanta 12 a Milano, inaugurata nell'ottobre scorso (foto in mezzo). La location è suggestiva, peccato esserci arrivati la sera con le tenebre. Si tratta dei magazzini generali della vecchia Milano commerciale ed industriale ristrutturati in moderni loft. Mi ha ricordato un po' il clima della Truman Brewery dove si sono insediati i ragzzi di 14bikeco a Londra. Credo di aver incontrato e parlato con Davide Marco Ferrari (foto in basso) ma non sono sicuro, non ci siamo presentati, persona molto affabile e gentile, prodiga di utili consigli e spiegazioni. C'era anche la sorella di Jacopo, Lavinia, che avevo incontrato fuori dall'EICMA di Milano a settembre, con un po' di bici in mostra. Ovviamente ho acquistato due ruote, per ora...ma spero che i rapporti proseguano. Bei telai, buona componentitica, eccellenti cerchi. Molto bravi e complimenti per la nuova splendida location.

Visiting and shopping at the new Jacopo Volpe's (photo up) workshop, Dodici cicli, at 12 Via Pietrasanta in Milan,just opened in October last year (photo middle). The location is beautiful, too bad we arrived in the evening with the darkness. These are the commercial and industrial general stores of the old Milan, restored into modern loft. It reminded me of the Truman Brewery where the guys from 14bikeco have settled in London. I think I have met and talked with Davide Marco Ferrari (photo bottom), but am not sure, we have not introduced ouselves, very friendly and kind person, generous with helpful advice and explanations. There was also Jacopo's sister, Lavinia, whom I met outside EICMA in Milan last September, with some of their bikes on display. Obviously I bought two wheels, for now ... but I hope that the relation will continue. Wonderful frames, nice omponents, excellent rims. Very good guys and congratulations for the new location.

TDV+Paul Smith

Jos (El Capitane), proprietario del Tour de Ville, il negozio ai confini della realtà, a Londra, e Sir Paul Smith, il noto stilista inglese, stanno pensando assieme ad una linea di abbigliamento per i city bikers. Pare che Smith giri con una fissa. In effetti fa pubblicità anche sulla rivista Fixed. Qui un video di Sir Paul Smith nel suo ufficio londinese, in surplace sulla sua fissa, e sorseggiando del buon tè assieme a Mark Canvendish e Brian Holm Sørensen.

Jos (El Capitan), owner of Tour de Ville, the shop situated in “The Twilight Zone”, in London, and Sir Paul Smith, the famous British fashion designer, are thinking about a range of clothing for city bikers. It seems that Smith is a fan of fixed gears. Actually, he’s even advertising in the Fixed magazine. Here is a video, with Sir Paul Smith in his London office, trackstanding while having tea with Mark Canvendish and Brian Holm Sørensen.

Stephen Bilenky

"Voglio un tandem da viaggio, cosa si può fare?" Questa richiesta da un cliente ha portato Stephen Bilenky a creare il tandem che ha vinto il Premio NAHBS. Il cliente era interessato ad un tandem con un look classico europeo e gli mandò alcune congiunzioni di Rivendell, che non fa i telai per tandem. Alcune parti dovevano essere fatta da zero, in quanto le congiunzioni per o tandem non esistono. Per creare un tubo piantone classico è stata realizzata una congiunzione in un bi-laminato come un sostituto. Le rifiniture sulla forcella sono originali Jack Taylor's degli anni ‘60, quindi anche la forcella doveva essere fabbricata.

“I want a lugged tandem, what can you do?” This request from a customer led Stephen Bilenky to create the tandem that won the NAHBS Award. The customer was interested in a tandem with a classic European look and sent him some lugs from Rivendell, who does not make tandem frames. Several parts needed to be made from scratch, since fabricated lugs for tandems do not exist. To create a classic looking headtube, a bi-laminate piece was created as a substitute for one of the lug. The blades on the fork are original Jack Taylor’s from the 1960s, so a fork crown had to be fabricated too.
