Alchemy

Steel Fixed Gear Bike: Fixies mean different things to different people. A fixed gear bike can be a perfect winter cadence trainer for the hardcore roadie. For others, it's the ultimate urban assault vehicle. No matter what your tastes, we can design a frame with a tube set optimized for your needs. Let us know where you ride and we'll engineer a bike to match.

Steel # 3

Don’t get it wrong ! The colour of this issue is not pink but magenta (c : 0 ; M : 100 ; J : 0 ; n :0) ! You can’t really imagine pink on the cover of a men’s magazine. As everybody knows, biking is a guy’s business. Careful! Not that much ! We wanted magenta because women are an intagral part of Steel. What would we do without women’s fashion series, without sensual shapes next to a frame. How could we miss their distinct eye and their light pen ? A pen that turns our technical and machist material into a pleasant content understandable to all. Let us see life through pink-coloured glasses for this third and last issue of the year 2011. These past months have been punctuated by events, interviews and discoveries. This issue is not an inventory nor an overview of biking, but once more a nice little mess. At the same time vintage and contemporary, delicate and trash, cold and sensual, sober and erotic, Steel again goes in all directions.

Focus on Andrea's bike

Telaio Condor World Series Pista, pipa Cinelli, piega 66-42 Campione Del Mondo, ruote Rigida, mozzo Sturmey Archer S2c, sella Regal San Marco scamosciata, guarnitura Campagnolo

Andrea, Head Mechanic

Condor World Series Pista

A new limited edition range frames that celebrate our founder’s 80th birthday, as well as the success of Condor supported riders at world level. The World Series is a run of 150 framesets in five different colour combinations, featuring a colour of cycling’s world champion rainbow band. Based upon Condor’s professional track teams of the 60s and 70s, the World Series frame features lugged, butted, round profile steel tubes. Each frameset is made by hand in Italy and comes as a special kit.

Condor: creating the Paris

In February our designer Ben and film maker Andy Waterman went to our factory to film the first production models of the new Paris Path single speed being created.
It takes the skills of several frame builders to produce the frame and fork. What you see being welded in the film is laser cut bi-laminations that have then been folded and shaped to form a design for the front of the bicycle. After a few days of building the frame is sent to our painters where the it is painted and Maria fits the decals and spends hours polishing the lacquer.
The frame is sent to London, England. Here we face and prepare the frames to be built into bicycles.

Eric Clapton's bikes

“My first bike was a James, given to me by Jack [Clapton’s uncle] after I'd pestered him to give me a Triumph Palm Beach, like the one he had, which was metallic scarlet and cream and was as far as I was concerned the ultimate bike (...) by taking one of the brakes off, removing the mudguards, stripping it down, and giving it different tires--the kind for riding over mud--

Milan BFF’ s Bike
